But admitting that? Nuh-uh, apparently not happening, considering that he's apparently focusing on the first part of what the other is saying. ]

It's not like it's just a single human. [ He says it in a "duh, shouldn't that be obvious!!" sort of way, even though he didn't explain a single thing about demons.. good job, Shuu. ] Humans are really, really weak compared to demons, but it's not like demons are invincible. Humans just come in hu-ge groups since they're cowards, and then they do as they please.

Magic.. su-re, whatever you want to call it, but we have powers that humans don't have. [ Which is enough of the same thing, he supposes, so Shuu won't even really complain about that part.

But the other part.. that sure is the main reason why he's so sour, although the other has no way of knowing to begin with. ]

But making contracts with them seems like a stupid idea, doesn't it..? Do you think humans ever keep themselves to that sort of thing? [ Yeah, sure, Shuu, say that.. to.. a human's face.. great plan. ]

[Yeah there is some bitterness there, though William will not ask personal details. He's never one to directly ask such things of close friends, let alone strangers like this one.]

Depends on the contract. Where I'm from, Demons use contracts to reproduce. And humans can use them to bind a demon to their will. Disobeying the contract seems to be impossible.

If we are talking an ordinary, mundane contract though, yes some humans are untrustworthy. People in general are, regardless of species though.

[ Shuu honestly wants to retort that it's not true, but.. well, he knows better than anyone else that demons can be just as shitty as humans. Admitting that just feels like beating his own cause, so he hesitates for a moment before a small sound escapes his lips. It almost sounds like a laugh, but there's something a little more bitter and unstable about it. ]

Yeah, that's right, isn't it..? In the end you really can only rely on yourself. What a terrible world you must live in that uses those sort of things that no one can rely on..

He just sighs though. Because how cynical.]

It isn't a great world, but it is the only one I have. And besides, while all mortal beings are sinful, we can strive to deal with those urges, can we not? And we just find those who feel the same.

Really..? You're saying that you're trying to deal with your urges? That you'll try to be a person that can be relied upon? [ Okay, yeah, it's easy enough in his tone to pick out that Shuu doesn't believe a moment of it, even if it's probably nothing personally aimed at William as much as it's something he can't help but feel in general. ]

[He doesn't quite know where this conversation is going and honestly, William cannot speak for humanity. Only himself.]

[ Shuu doesn't really believe a word of it, just by nature, but he smiles with that same edge to it as he nods, already half turning away from the other. ]

Then.. if I ever come to rely on you in the future, I expect you to live up to it, alright..? [ Although he's not saying "I trust you" - that's nowhere near his tone - as much as it's "I'll test you." Just sooner or later rather than now, since this isn't any good opportunity for it. ]

...I do not see why I should make any sort of promise to you. Who knows what you might demand?

[But honestly, William is so weak to other people's requests for assistance that he probably wont say no.]

[ Shuu takes in a small breath, and he molds his expression the best he can into something a little more innocent looking - sure, along with the puppy eyes there's still something that indicates nothing about the innocence is genuine, but it's not like he hasn't already figured out the other guy would be able to see right through it. He doesn't really bother to hide his personality. ]

Eh..? What's that, you're already distrusting me now..?

I am used to people who take advantage of any situation is all. I believe you would do the same in my place. You are an unknown quantity.

[Honestly, even before he'd found out demons were very real, William had learned to have a sense of caution. Especially after that regretful bond he had formed with Arthur, ugh.]

How rude.. I'm a to-tal-ly trustworthy person, you know!

[ Not.. exactly true. But what's at least true is that Shuu is pretty open and true to himself, even if that "himself" means being a shitlord. But at least he doesn't bother to hide it. ]

You'll see when that time comes.. It'll be totally reasonable, and then you won't be able to help thinking "ah, I've been so rude to someone who doesn't deserve it at all, I better make up for it!"

[ See, there we go. That's totally an agreement in Shuu's mind (Shuu's very, very skewed mind) and so he just smiles at the other with a nod. That's a deal, William will have something to prove to him in the future.

But at least it means he's going to stop bothering the other for a little bit now. With a small wave of his hand, Shuu's already turning to disappear into the crowds once more. ]
